Roggen is a town located on I-76 or Grand Army of the Republic Highway, it is about 50 minutes south of Greeley, and 1 hour northeast of Denver. The town is about 4 blocks long by one block wide., so even in its heyday it was not a very large town, but obviously was a big stop along the highway for passerbys, due to the fact that it had a gas station, shops, and a motel of sorts- all of which are now nonoperational.
An old row of shops that now lie empty.
An old home or barn was at the end of the town, it is obviously not occupied but still has a sign out front that says "private property- no trespassing."
The old Prairie Lodge was very cool to see because you could look in all the rooms and see the doors still attatched, and even mirrors on the walls. Be careful if you choose to enter this building because it was obviously being lived in by some people and partied in by others.
The old church is one of the only operational buildings in the town, along with the post office and several homes. There are people still living in this town, but there are very few residents left here.
An old gas station was by far my favorite building in the town, this is located right before the turn in to the town. I did not encounter any people while I was there, just a couple of dogs. I was surprised by the large factory on the other side of the train tracks, and was surprised that the town couldn't flourish with the factory, train running through, and short commuting distance to larger town, but other than my curiosities it was a lovely small town with the majority or all old building still in standing condition. If you visit be wary of the private property signs, because they are abundant.
